Where to Celebrate Juneteenth in Oklahoma City
Why does #ClevyrCare about Juneteenth?
Here at Clevyr, we believe in celebrating humans from all walks of life. We believe what makes a human beautiful is the complex make up of not only where they came from, but who they are becoming. We are an inclusive company that honors diversity both in our company culture, in our local community and around the globe. We believe we have a social responsibility to contribute to important conversations and to increase awareness around topics and holidays that celebrate diversity and inclusion.

WHAT IS JUNETEENTH?
Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated on 19 June to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, slaves were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Although the Emancipation Proclamation was signed years earlier in 1863, it was not until Juneteenth in 1865 that the last of the remaining enslaved African Americans were freed. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas.
